History
Atlantic Tax was set-up in 2016 by John Kingsley with the objective of providing expert advice on the multitude of direct tax issues affecting owner-managed companies, their shareholders and directors.
Founder
John is a Chartered Tax Adviser with 20 years’ experience in the fields of owner-managed company taxation and corporate transactions. In recent years John has devoted a substantial amount of his working time to advising other professionals on tax issues affecting their own clients. He is also well used to the challenges posed by speaking publicly about tax, having presented many times to external audiences.
Focus
Having spent 20 years operating in the owner-managed company space, John felt strongly that there’s a need for tax specialists who are dedicated to working alongside owner-managers to address key commercial issues, such as growing the business, attracting and retaining the most talented people or planning for an exit. After all, owner-managed companies are the life blood of the UK economy and should be recognised as such.
The statutory tax reliefs and exemptions available under the UK tax system can be incredibly powerful in many different commercial scenarios. Our mission at Atlantic Tax is to work with our owner-managed clients to deliver the intended benefits of these measures.
Approach
Atlantic Tax is an owner-managed company itself and we understand the competing pressures and demands faced by business owners, which is why we place great emphasis on taking the time to understand our clients’ commercial objectives and aspirations. We can then provide targeted advice that is timely, forward looking and cost effective.
We are also proactive in terms of bringing ideas to the table for you to consider.

Location
Atlantic Tax is currently based in Belfast, which was voted the most Business Friendly City of its size by the fDi intelligence division of the FT in 2015. Belfast is also a convenient location from which to service clients based anywhere in the UK. Whilst we embrace modern technology to communicate with our clients, we accept that sometimes there is no substitute for a face to face discussion and we will travel to meetings whenever they are needed.
